Salicylic acid is an anti-inflammatory with analgesic and corneal dissolving properties and is only used externally due to its known side effects. For oral use, the derivative, acetylsalicylic acid, is often used in combination with other active ingredients.
Salicylic acid is mainly used for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis, acne or seborrheic eczema. Due to its desquamating and corneal dissolving effect, salicylic acid is a popular remedy for the removal of corns and warts.
